Taste Local Delicacies

Sri Lanka is known for its exquisite traditional food which range from the tear-jerking super-spicy to the mouth-watering sweet-meats. Being the metropolis that it is, one can find restaurants that serve dishes from anywhere in the world within the Colombo City limits.
The other nice thing about the city is that travellers have the option of selecting from the extremely expensive five-star restaurant to the road-side vendors; the aromas of spices and the taste of the food is much the same in both extremes.

Nightlife In Colombo

Since the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka, Colombo and other major cities now have the luxury of opening their doors till later at night. Partying in Colombo is an experience non-par with any other. Clubs, pubs and restaurants now remain open till the wee hours of the morning and “club-hopping” or visiting several locations on one-night is a popular past-time for many party-goers.
Most restaurants also remain open till midnight and for a snack thereafter a “night-kade” or raod-side vendor is just around the corner.

Family Day-Out

Looking for a place to take the entire family on a day-time excursion? You have several options to choose from not-too-far from the city.
The national zoo filled with many endemic and migratory species of flora and fauna is at close-hand in a popular suburb; Dehiwela. Sri Lank also boasts two brilliant water-parks in Kelaniya and Avisawella both with easy access. The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage or Turtle Hatcheries along the Galle Road are also very popular attractions, specially for the kids.

Visit a Temple, Church, Kovil or Mosque

Being a multi-ethnic nation has many benefits for our little island in the sun. One may find a church and mosque side-by-side while a temple and kovil may be situated down the same street. Thousands of years of history is displayed on the many architectural designs of the buildings and the solace one feels in visiting a place of worship is deeply soul cleansing.
